It is no wonder Golf Digest and Golf Magazine lists Tidewater among the greatest public courses in the US. North Myrtle Beach's Tidewater Golf Club is touted as one of the best golf courses on the Grand Strand with greens placed alongside the waterway on both nines. If you're planning on golfing your way across Myrtle Beach, here are some of the courses that need to be at the top of your list.

It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, semi-pro, or professional golfer-there will be at least one course in Myrtle Beach you are bound to fall in love with. The most challenging decision you'll ever make is which course to play. There are more than 71 golf courses to choose from, making Myrtle Beach the unofficial golf capital in the US. Myrtle Beach, SC is not only renowned for 60 miles of magnificent white sandy beaches, it's also a golf lover's dream. It’s been too long since I’ve taken myself from Augusta National to St. On the other hand, World Tour is located in the heart of Myrtle Beach and offers golfers a chance to play holes that replicate some of the game’s most famous challenges. Rivers Edge, which plays along the Shallotte River, is among the Grand Strand’s prettiest courses and the commute is a small price to pay to play the Arnold Palmer design. The drive from Myrtle Beach to Rivers Edge (pictured right) is a lengthy one - plan on at least 50 minutes - but it’s time to set the excuses aside. The Tom Jackson is worth seeking out in 2021. It’s time for me (and you) to start paying more attention. River Hills is tucked away in Little River, often beyond the notice of the countless golfers who drive by each year. We could all use a confidence-booster and I’ll happily head to the West Course in search of one. The layout is always in good shape and, according to the USGA, it’s the area’s easiest course. I’ve teed it up at King’s North and SouthCreek but it has been awhile on the West Course at Myrtle Beach National. Who doesn’t love wide fairways and big greens? Pace of play might be a touch slow but it’s a small price to pay. Sure, Legends is always busy, but Heathland, a Tom Doak design, is outstanding. The back nine and the holes along the marsh are among the area’s most memorable. I’ve played Pawleys Plantation, the area’s other Nicklaus design, more than any course in the area but haven’t teed it up there recently. The course is more receptive to mid to high-handicappers than its reputation might suggest, assuming you aren’t intimidated. Not me, despite a handicap that suggests I should be fearful of the Pete Dye design. Some people tremble at the thought of playing Barefoot Resort’s Dye Course.
This is a course worth going out of your way to revisit every couple years. Crow Creek, located just across the state line in Brunswick County, N.C., is one of the area’s most underrated tracks. I’ve visited the layout on numerous occasions and I’m going to make it a priority to play there. The waste bunkers are flat, so they shouldn’t be exceptionally difficult to play out of. Shaftesbury Glen has undergone a dramatic makeover the last five years, installing nearly 500,000 square feet of waste bunkers that provided the course with needed visual contrast. I can’t wait to challenge the short par 4 10th, the island green 13th, and the demanding dogleg right 18th hole. Located just west of the beach, Long Bay Club, a Jack Nicklaus design, has a much lower profile than it should, and, like to many of you, I haven’t played the course recently. I’ve been fortunate enough to have teed it up at nearly every one of them, but even for the most avid of players, years can elapse between trips to particular layouts.Ģ021 - it’s gonna be a better year, right? - here are the 10 Myrtle Beach golf courses that are on my must-play list:
